Marjorie Katharine (Kraemer) Johnston of Britton passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in her 79th year.
Beloved wife of the late George Johnston. Loving mother of Elizabeth (Jason Heimpel), Kenneth, and Georgina. Survived by brother and sister-in-law Murray & Sherry Kraemer, and remembered also by 5 nephews and 2 nieces, 2 step-nephews and 1 step-niece, and by their families.
Predeceased by parents Kenneth & Viola (Roney) Kraemer, parents-in-law Maurice & Isabel (Nichol) Johnston, brother-in-law Sam Johnston & wife Marcie, sister-in-law Mary & husband Bob Nordlander, and by her great-nephew Sylas.
Marjorie was born in Stratford on November 18, 1947, and raised on the Kraemer family farm on Hwy. 8 between Mitchell and Sebringville. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Fullarton Township, high school in Mitchell, and Teacher’s College in Stratford, graduating in 1968.
In 1967, Marjorie was chosen as Miss Ag Week in Stratford and then went on to be chosen as the Farm Show Princess in London. She was a member of the Mitchell Junior Farmers, and it was through Junior Farmers that Marjorie met George. They were married on October 24, 1969 and moved to Listowel where she and George farmed together for the next 50 years, first with dairy cattle and then switching to beef. Marjorie also taught school before starting a family and then returned to teaching a number of years later as a supply teacher in many area schools.
Marjorie was an active 4-H member in her younger years and became a 4-H leader in the 1980’s, leading several clubs over the years. She was a Life Member of the Britton Women’s Institute and was also a member of the Britton WMS at Knox Presbyterian Church in Listowel. Alongside George, she was active with the Perth County Cattlemen’s Association. Marjorie made many lifelong friends through all the organizations she was involved with.
Above all, Marjorie embodied what it meant to be positive in the face of adversity. She faced many health challenges with the courage most of us could only wish we had.
