After a battle with cancer fought with strength, dignity, grace and her signature sense of humour, Nancy Davidson (nee Fidler) of Atwood passed away peacefully at The Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth on November 7, 2024, at the age of 70. Beloved wife of the late Peter Dargie (2013). Proud and loving mother of Jen (Kirk) Burgess of Thamesford and Lyndsay (Kyle) Coghlin of Atwood. Admired stepmother of Paul Barton of Paisley and Shanna (Darryl) Thomson of Barrie. Cherished and dedicated Nana of Hannah and Nate Burgess, Owen, Emma and Reed Coghlin, and Reese, Rowan and Spencer Thomson. Dearly remembered by her sisters Margaret Jones (Jack Eady) and Jane Becker. Predeceased by her parents Norman Fidler and Muriel Fidler (nee Fewster).
Born in Walkerton, Nancy committed her life to caring for her daughters, showing them how to be strong, independent, loving and compassionate women. She spent over 25 years working for ServiceCanada in Walkerton and Owen Sound. Nancy loved animals—in particular, her dogs Sadie and Lewy, she enjoyed gardening and was good with her hands; she could see something in passing and then figure out how to make it whether that meant picking up a power tool, turning on her sewing machine or grabbing a crochet hook. In recent years, Nancy enjoyed her yoga classes in Milverton, visits with her dear friends since childhood at the family’s cottage “Linger Longer,” seeing plays with her sisters and daughters, and spending time puzzling “down in Puzzle Land.” Having her lawn filled with family and friends for the annual Atwood Canada Day parade brought her tremendous joy and her presence will be missed by many in the community each year. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren; she was so very proud of them all. She loved playing games, crafting and sharing her gardening knowledge with them. However, what she loved most was cheering them on from the sidelines when they played hockey and baseball. She was their biggest fan.
Nancy’s family is comforted knowing that she is finally home and dry.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 1-3 p.m. with words of remembrance beginning at 2 p.m., at Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John St, Atwood, ON.
