Held in the love and prayers of his family, Merle Keith Shantz of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Thursday, June 20, 2024, in his 90th year.
Beloved husband of Velma (Pierce) Shantz. Proud father of Joy & Myron Wagler of New Hamburg, Kara & Alvin Carter of Poole, Kevin Shantz (Bonnie Loughran) of Listowel, David Shantz (Judy Smith) of Cambridge, and Dale Shantz (Angela Postma) of St. Brides, Alberta. Loving grandfather of Jamie Wagler (Helen Musgrave), Amber Wagler, Devon & Meredith Wagler, Cody & Nikki Wagler, Amanda & Shawn Cleland, Dana Carter (Barry Williams), Joshua Shantz, Jessica & Hugh Smith, Jacob Shantz, Jeorgia Shantz, Jonah Shantz, Colton & Belicia Shantz, Wyatt Shantz, Dustin Shantz, and Christian Shantz, and adoring great-grandfather of Karis, Vera, Sullivan, Carter, Kendall, Macy, Evelyn, and Jase. Remembered by his sisters-in-law Mary Shantz, Kelly Shantz, and Marianne Shantz, by Velma’s brother and sisters, and by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Lloyd (1994) & Beatrice (1993) (Snider) Shantz, brothers Ellis (2010), Royal (2020), and Calvin (2020), and by baby boy Carter and baby boy Smith.
Visitation was held at Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church on Monday, June 24th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Private family interment and committal service was held in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel, on Tuesday, June 25th, led by Pastor Kara Carter. The celebration of Merle’s life was held at Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church, Listowel, on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., reception followed. The service was livestreamed and the link available on the funeral home website.
