Wingham resident facing impaired, drug possession charges

MORRIS-TURNBERRY – Huron County OPP have laid charges against a Wingham resident following an alleged impaired driving occurrence last week northwest of Wingham.

On Oct. 13 at approximately 1:33 p.m. Huron County OPP officers and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a single vehicle crash located off of Holmes Line. Upon arrival officers located and spoke with the driver at the scene.

Police say the investigating officer observed signs the driver was impaired by a drug.

The driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and a search incident to arrest resulted in police seizing suspected cocaine and an opioid. Police say a drug recognition expert later conducted an evaluation on the driver and it was determined the driver was impaired by a drug.

The accused, 25-year-old Kealin Labbe from Wingham, has been charged with operation while impaired, possession of a Schedule I substance – cocaine, and possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid.

Labbe has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 6 in Goderich.
