Wingham resident charged with multiple offences after ramming cruiser

NORTH PERTH – The Perth County OPP has laid charges against a Wingham resident after they rammed a police cruiser with a stolen vehicle.

On Oct. 1 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Perth OPP officers were investigating stolen plates attached to a parked vehicle at a business on Road 164 in the Municipality of North Perth. The driver of the vehicle rammed the police cruiser twice and another parked car before he fled on foot. A vehicle check revealed the vehicle was also stolen.

As a result, Nollan Whitfield, 36, a resident of Wingham was arrested and charged with: dangerous operation, possession property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession property obtained by crime under $5,000, assault a peace officer with a weapon, resist peace officer, flight from peace officer, failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and failure to stop after accident.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
