WDCS students make donation to local food bank

Walkerton District Community School (WDCS) students from Ms. McBride/Mrs. King’s kindergarten class joined students in Mrs. Gaasenbeek’s Grade 3/4 class to collect non-perishable food items for the local food bank. Last year, students aimed to wrap the interior perimeter of the school, falling short by a few items. This year, with a total of 1,250 items collected, students were able to exceed their goal. Over the weeks, they collected items while learning about the importance of the food bank, and various statistics regarding food bank use in Ontario. Once all the food was collected, the classes lined the halls with the items, delighted the variety of donations. Then students from Ms. Wilson’s Grade 6 class took the donations down to the food bank, unloaded and sorted it.
