Mother Nature sure dumped on us last Saturday. The blizzard forced the Walkerton Legion to close, and cancelled what would have been our first meat draw since reopening. The meat draw will now take place in two weeks, on Saturday, March 5 at 3 p.m.
Because President Rose’s name is on the licence, she can’t enter and can’t win any draws, but it was still funny to see her name as NSI (not signed in) for the weekly Pot ‘o Gold members-only draw!
Walkerton’s Catch the Ace was sold out last week, and the number of tickets available is limited again this week. If you haven’t got your ticket yet, hurry in, there may still be a few remaining. Last Sunday, Ray Strauss was sitting right there and heard his name read out. He won $250 with envelope No. 1, which contained the 8 of Clubs. This was third week and the same Legion member has sold the winning ticket for two of those draws! The jackpot next week estimated to be around $1,300. This round will go for a maximum 30 weeks.
Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) wants to know how veterans and family members like to receive their information and what you know about their services. Even if you have never contacted VAC or do not currently receive VAC benefits and services, they want to hear from you. The survey takes about 15 minutes and is conducted on behalf of VAC by the independent Canadian research firm, EKOS Research Associates Inc. The survey is confidential and your responses are not shared with VAC and will not have an impact on any benefits or services you might receive from them. The survey can be found at www.ekos.com/veteransurvey.
If you know a veteran or serving CF member who lived, or is living, in Ontario, you can submit a photo and up to 200 words for the 9th Military Service Recognition Book. The veteran does not need to be a member of the Legion. There is a master index on www.on.legion.ca of the veterans already published, and also a downloadable form to submit, which can be mailed to:
