All members are asked to show up Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the hall to help shape any future activities and to show support for the executive, who have operated the Legion for over two years without a break.
People were in a good mood at our first meat draw since reopening, especially at the “lucky table” where all the women won at least once, even the nail draw! If you don’t know why everyone cheered for a nail, maybe they’ll do it at next regular meat draw.
I can’t promise a nail draw April 2 at the big pre-Easter ham draw in the hall, but get there early anyway. This ham draw has always been a very popular one.
Late last fall, Ruth Critchfield brought 102 Christmas cards for us to write greetings to our troops serving far from home. On Saturday she read out a letter thanking everyone who sent those cards, “The time you took, lifted our holiday spirits,” signed by several officials from the NATO Multi-National Corps, NorthEast Headquarters in Szczecin, Poland. It was very timely considering the hundreds of thousands of refugees from Ukraine who have been streaming across the border to Poland in recent days. We never know where an act of kindness will lead.
On Monday, March 21 at 10 a.m. at the Durham Legion, all veterans are invited to have coffee and chat with others who have served in the military. Any veteran is welcome, whether or not you are a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. If you have no transportation and would like to attend please call the Walkerton Branch Service Officer at 519-507-1457.
Adam Penner will be thanking our community partner, the Walkerton & District Optimist Club, for drawing his ticket on last Sunday’s Catch the Ace draw. His pre-selected envelope, No. 13, contained the 2 of Clubs so he won the weekly amount of $300. Once again, Catch the Ace tickets sold out early. If you’re quick enough, there still may be some left this week. The jackpot for next Sunday is estimated to be well over $2,300.
