Walkerton Legion meat draw this Saturday

Fingers crossed that Mother Nature won’t dump another weekend blizzard on Walkerton this weekend. Our first meat draw since reopening will now be taking place this Saturday. Bring your friends, your toonies and loonies – heck, we’ll even accept your quarters! Doors open at 2:30 p.m. with the first spin shortly after 3 p.m. For just a dollar, your ticket will have three numbers – so three chances every time the wheel gets spun. Once again, the winners can choose from a wide variety of locally-purchased meats. The Walkerton Meat Market supplies meats for our special draws, which also include that enticing “Mystery Prize.”

Sports Officer Ron Lamont has confirmed that several Branch 102 members will be heading to the Hanover Legion to play in the singles, doubles or team Seniors Dart Tournament on Saturday, March 5. More Sports events for members only are starting up again, so check the board for sign-up sheets. These events are always a good time with some great camaraderie. If our members win, there’s a good possibility of bringing the next tournament back to Walkerton.

Last Sunday, Theresa Weber of Paisley won $250 in the weekly Catch the Ace draw. Her pre-chosen envelope was No. 3, which contained the 3 of Hearts. All available tickets were once again sold out last week and the warning is still the same: hurry in, there may still be a few tickets left! The jackpot is predicted to be about $1,800.

If you appreciate having a place like the Legion in Walkerton, for less than a cup of coffee per day, you can apply to join. Dues for 2022 are $60, veterans $50. Application forms are available at the bar. Dominion Command offers the first year’s membership free to serving or retired CAF or RCMP members and their immediate family.

While we sit in our comfortable homes and enjoy our Legions, people in Ukraine are sleeping in underground train stations, remarkably similar to England during the Second World War. On Sunday the Canadian government sent a second shipment, $25 million of body armour, helmets, gas masks and night-vision equipment. Stand with Ukraine.
