FORMOSA – The revamped Formosa Recreation Complex is getting closer to finished every day. The opening was celebrated on Oct. 15, with thank-yous passed out to NWMO for their generous donation of over $700,000, and to Britespan for keeping the project on schedule, allowing it to be ready for the Formosa Homecoming.
Project Leader Nick Voisin and his volunteers were sincerely thanked for their countless hours of dedication and time. There is still lots to do. The roll-up sides were just installed and soon the walls around the pad will be in place.
The Formosa Lions Club and the Catholic Women’s League just held their annual turkey supper. The delicious meals can be attributed to the 50 to 60 volunteers who peeled, cut, baked, boiled, cooked, carved, set up, served and delivered meals.
The Formosa Swans (the former Lioness Club) have been baking up a storm and their Christmas Cake and Gumdrop Cake is available from members or at Formosa TNT General Store. It is indeed yummy.
The villagers are still talking about the exceptional Formosa Homecoming. Again, this can be attributed to the amazing number of talented volunteers.
And no, all those volunteers that have worked so diligently on projects during the last few months are not taking a break. They can be seen decorating the town for the Formosa Country Christmas four-day drive-thru event running Dec. 1-4. If you are interested in helping out, just head down to the Recreation Centre and find out where the crew is working that day.
With only four weeks until the 2022 Formosa Country Christmas weekend, the committee and volunteers are knee-deep in set up. This is the fourth year Formosa has hosted the largest Christmas event in southern Grey-Bruce. The whole village will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland with exhibits, displays and thousands and thousands of Christmas lights. The larger-than-life Nativity Scene will again be situated in front of Valley View Terrace Senior Apartments.
And it is rumoured the Grinch will be sneaking around town, as well as many other Christmas characters.
