HOWICK TOWNSHIP – The Upper Maitland Mustang U11 team ended their season as runners-up in the ‘C’ division for WOAA on April 3.
The home-ice advantage and enthusiastic crowd at the Howick Community Centre were not enough for the Mustangs to overcome a strong Saugeen Shores Storm team, which did not lose a game throughout the regular season.
The Mustangs held the Storm in check until the end of the second period when Saugeen Shores scored with five seconds left. The Storm pressed hard all through the third and added three more for a final score of 4-0.
The Mustangs would like to thank the coaching staff of Matt Ropp, Jane Rapien and Curt Donaldson for the fantastic season that saw the team continually improve as the season progressed. Other highlights of the season included the four-game win streak in the South Huron tournament that saw them finish as runners-up and narrowly missing out to Mitchell for a position in the OWHA playdowns.
