NORTH HURON – A pickup truck and an all-terrain vehicle have been returned to their owners and plenty of charges have been laid following a recent investigation conducted by Huron County OPP.
In the early morning of Sept. 25, Huron County OPP officers were patrolling near Auburn when they observed a pickup truck with an ATV in the rear cargo box. The officers attempted to stop the pickup however the driver failed to stop, drove dangerously and fled from the officers.
Officers discontinued their pursuit of the suspect vehicle however shortly thereafter an officer came across the suspect vehicle turning into a farm property located on Westfield Road.
Once again, the driver attempted to flee however his vehicle collided with a piece of farm equipment and got bogged down in the mud. Officers were able to approach the vehicle and proceeded to arrest both the driver and passenger without incident. Police investigation determined the pickup truck had been stolen from a property in Huron East a few days earlier and the ATV had just been stolen from a neighbouring property.
The driver, Jean-Philippe Gnemmi, 34, from Huron East has been charged with: two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; flight from peace officer; mischief under $5,000; operation while prohibited; two counts of failing to comply with probation order; and fail to comply with release order.
The accused remained in custody until a court appearance on Oct. 5, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
The passenger, Ashley Sousa, 30, from Stratford has been charged with: two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; and occupant of a motor vehicle taken without consent.
