‘Suspicious vehicle’ report leads to arrest of two North Huron residents, multiple charges

EXETER – A 33-year-old female and 53-year-old male, both from North Huron are facing several criminal charges following a report of a suspicious vehicle that was reported to police earlier this week.

Huron County OPP say they received the report of a suspicious vehicle in the Exeter Tim Hortons parking lot around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17.

“Officers arrived minutes later and located a Dodge Caliber automobile with two occupants inside. Officers attempted to speak to the occupants, but both were initially unresponsive. The female driver and male passenger were eventually woken and identified,” states a release from Huron County OPP. “Evidence of drug use was observed inside the vehicle. The investigating officer noticed signs that the driver was under the influence of a drug.”

Police say the driver was placed under arrest for operation while impaired, and a search of the driver following arrest “revealed a quantity of suspected fentanyl.”

Huron County OPP also arrested the passenger on two outstanding warrants. Police say that a search of the passenger after arrest produced a quantity of suspected fentanyl.

The investigation also revealed the vehicle had been stolen the previous day (Oct. 16).

Both suspects were taken to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton, where they were held for a bail hearing.

The driver, 33-year-old Catherine Corr from North Huron, has been charged with:

  • operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;
  • possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid; and
  • two counts of fail to comply with probation order.

The passenger, 53-year-old Robin Wellstead from North Huron, has been charged with:

  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; and
  • possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid.
