HANOVER – The suspect in a Hanover shooting has been arrested in Ottawa; he’s being returned to Hanover, where he faces charges that include attempted murder.
A press release dated Aug. 13 stated that on Tuesday, Aug. 9, Hanover police were called to Hanover and District Hospital with a report that a man was currently in the emergency department being treated for a gunshot wound.
The Hanover Police began an intensive investigation, with support from West Grey Police Service and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit.
On Friday, Aug. 12, a warrant was issued for a West Grey man. A provincewide alert was sent out that included information about the suspect and the vehicle he was believed to be driving.
The 30-year-old man was taken into custody at gunpoint by the Ottawa Police Service’s Tactical Team and Guns and Gangs Unit. He’s being returned to Hanover this week.
A tweet on the Hanover Police website indicated the suspect and victim are known to each other and this was a targeted shooting.
Deputy Chief George Hebblethwaite said, “The Hanover Police Service would like to thank our policing partners in West Grey, the OPP, and Ottawa for their work in bringing this phase of our investigation to a safe conclusion.”
He noted that while an arrest has been made, the investigation continues and anyone with information is asked to call Hanover Police at 519-364-2411 or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).
