Stratford-Perth Pride seeks volunteers to plan inaugural Trans Pride Week

PERTH COUNTY – Stratford-Perth Pride is looking for community members and organizations to help plan Perth County’s first Trans Pride Week in November.

To coincide with Trans Awareness Week (Nov. 13-19) and the Trans Day of Remembrance (Nov. 20), Stratford-Perth Pride is planning on holding the first annual Trans Pride Week from Nov. 13-20.

The goal of Trans Pride Week to hold events and programs that increase awareness, knowledge and acceptance of the trans community in Perth County.

“Think Pride Month but trans-focused,” said AJ Adams, president of Stratford-Perth Pride. “Trans people are more likely to experience hate, discrimination and violence than cisgender people, which is why we need to provide equitable support, awareness and education to and for this community within the LGBTQ2S+ umbrella.”

Volunteers, as part of the Trans Pride Week Committee, will help determine what events and programming should take place. Possible events may include a trans flag raising(s), educational workshops, panel discussions, a trans movie night, and a candle vigil for the Trans Day of Remembrance.

“We want the community – specifically Perth County’s trans community – to provide the direction of the events and programming offered during Trans Pride Week,” added Adams. “Our goal is to ensure Trans Pride Week and all of our events occur throughout Perth County where possible.”
