Morris-Turnberry resident facing charges

WINGHAM – An investigation conducted by the Huron County OPP involving an abandoned vehicle in a ditch in Wingham has resulted in stolen property being recovered and criminal charges laid against a Morris-Turnberry resident.

Police were called to Alice Street in Wingham on Sunday, March 5 around 8 a.m., where it was reported an abandoned pickup truck was stuck in the ditch.

Police located the vehicle, which they say contained 10 stolen road signs from Huron County, as well as a stolen drive-thru sign from the Wingham McDonald’s.

“During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the owner of the pickup truck had been operating the vehicle on the date in question and was subsequently charged on April 2,” states a Huron County OPP release.

The truck owner, a 20-year-old Morris-Turnberry resident, has been charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused was processed and later released from custody, with a court appearance scheduled for May 29 in Goderich.
