Still time to register a team in Golf Fore Kids’ Sake fundraising tournament

KINCARDINE – Golf Fore Kids’ Sake, presented by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kincardine and District, is scheduled for June 3 and 4 at Ainsdale Golf Course.

This fundraiser offers more than a fun weekend of golf – it’s a great opportunity to help some wonderful kids.

The men’s tournament is June 3; the women’s tournament is June 4. Both days begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The entry fee of $600 per team includes golf, carts, dinner, swag bag, competition holes, putting contest and more.

New this year is the Spirit Award for the best dressed team from each day. Winners will receive a fantastic prize. Adding to the fun is the karaoke hole – be prepared to let your “inner rock star” out on the course (sponsored by Maitland Welding and Machining).

There are some great competition holes, a men’s putting contest, women’s ball toss, silent auction at the men’s tournament and live auction at the women’s tournament featuring Kincardine’s own Laura Haight as celebrity auctioneer.

There’s still time to register your team – visit kincardine.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca. Deadline is May 24.

Yolanda Ritsema, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kincardine and District, said, “We have seen an increased need for our mentoring programs as we come out of the pandemic. As a result, we’ve expanded our service to include all of Southern Bruce County – Walkerton, Teeswater, Formosa and Mildmay – with our community based one-to-one and group mentoring programs.”

The program is expanding into Huron County, too.

“In the fall of 2021, we received funding from the Perth Huron United Way to support 11 new matches in the service area of northern Huron County … we’ve launched our in-school mentoring program at Maitland River Elementary School in Wingham and Brookside Elementary near Lucknow. Along with these 11 supported matches, we’ve identified an additional 25 young people in this area that would benefit from our program,” said Ritsema.

Ritsema went on to say, “The funds received from our Golf Fore Kids’ Sake weekend of golf will directly support the 51 young people in our programs in Bruce County and the additional 36 in northern Huron County.”

Mentoring programs really do make a difference.

“We know that young people who had regular contact with their mentor during the pandemic felt more supported, less anxious, worried or isolated,” said Ritsema.

“Your commitment to BBBS Kincardine, through this event, will ensure that we continue to support young people across southern Bruce and northern Huron counties with mentoring programs that challenge growth, expand possibilities, express care, share power and provide support.
