LISTOWEL – The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board is excited to announce the development of a third elementary school to offer a French Immersion (FI) Program within the district. St. Mary’s Catholic School in Listowel will be offering a FI program for the 2023-2024 school year for students in the Listowel area community.
The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board possesses a rich history of French Immersion with programs currently offered in both counties. In Perth County, French Immersion is offered at Jeanne Sauvé Catholic School, Stratford and St. Michael Catholic Secondary School, Stratford. In Huron County, the FI program is offered at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Goderich and St Anne’s Catholic Secondary School in Clinton. Our French Immersion programs focus on the development of students’ ability to communicate in French as well as a deep understanding and appreciation of French culture both in Canada and globally.
As the second FI partner school with St. Michael CSS, in Stratford, students can count on taking FI through to graduation in Grade 12. St. Mary’s Catholic School will begin to offer French Immersion starting with a Grade 1 class in the 2023-2024 academic year. Students enrolled in Senior Kindergarten in the 2022-2023 school year will have the option of being members of the first French Immersion cohort at the school.
The Board looks forward to this new opportunity and is now inviting families who are interested in the French Immersion Program to begin student registration for September 2023.
