MILDMAY – The South Bruce Dairy Club’s Achievement Day was held on Sept. 9 at the Mildmay Fall Fair.
The Achievement Day Show is different from the other shows that the club has attended this year. Only club members can compete at the achievement day show, making it the first time that all the members have directly competed against each other. This year, 12 of the 13 members were able to attend the Achievement Day. As show time approached, the members were busy getting the calves ready for the ring.
First came the pre-4-H class. This class was for kids under nine years of age who want to try showing either beef or dairy. Many of the kids in the class have older siblings in 4-H clubs and are looking forward to when they will be old enough to join 4-H.
After the pre-4-H class, the Achievement Day Show started with the Novice Showmanship category, followed by Junior Showmanship and a combined Intermediate and Senior Showmanship class.

With the Achievement Day Show finished, it was time for the second annual 4-H Alumni Showmanship Class. This class was for any former 4-H members who wanted to try showing. With calves borrowed from current 4-H members, they headed into the ring. Like last year, there were too many people for one class, so the class was split into two. Everyone enjoyed watching the show as the competitors showed off their skills.
When the show was over, everything was cleaned up and loaded back onto the trailers. For some of the members it was their first show of the year, for others it was the last show of the year, and a few are looking forward to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
The Achievement Day is the conclusion of the club for this year. The South Bruce Dairy Club would like to thank all the companies, farms, and individuals that have given of their time, money, and support this year. Without them the club would not be able to run.
The Club is looking forward to another great year in 2024.
