South Bruce council candidate – Councillor at-large: Nigel Van Dyk

BIOGRAPHY

South Bruce is my home. I care about South Bruce, and want to move our community forward in a way that improves the lives of our residents now, and prepares a future for our children full of opportunity.  I want to provide the voters with a councillor who will carefully consider the major issues, while not forgetting all the day-to-day operations of a municipality. I will be a councillor who can negotiate difficult situations, find common ground and a way forward that considers the needs of council, our hard working municipal staff, and of course the members of the public.

I am a community leader who brings good judgement and common sense to the decision making process. My experience in negotiating difficult situations in the workplace has developed my ability to listen, consider all viewpoints, and make decisions for the best outcome for all. My work at ESA has provided experience in regulatory compliance, as well as reading and understanding legislation. Being on a committee of council, and serving as the chair of the Chamber of Commerce has provided experience in governance. My religious background drives honesty and integrity in everything I do. I understand the mechanics of how governance and legislation work, but bring a common sense, logical approach to how they are put into practice in everyday life.

BIGGEST ISSUE

South Bruce is a divided community. We have divisions based on what town you live in. We have divisions based on your beliefs around COVID-19. We have divisions based on your feelings of whether or not we should host the proposed DGR. As your councillor, I hope to move our community forward in a way that can unite all citizens of South Bruce.  I will work for the good of everyone, where we can celebrate and be happy for our neighbouring town’s achievements as well as our own. Where we can listen to each other’s opinions and learn from each other’s experiences.  Where we can consider the collective good for our children and grandchildren ahead of our own interests. I call on all residents to begin mending the divide and rally together around this election to begin working together to move our community forward!
