WALKERTON – This year’s Run4Health in Walkerton has raised $38,676.35 for the Walkerton and District Hospital Foundation.
“We are thrilled with the outcome of this year’s event,” said Run4Health chair Christine Brandt. “We had terrific support from sponsors, participants and volunteers, and this is the result – a significant donation being made to the new mammography machine at the Walkerton hospital.”
After a successful virtual run in 2020 where $27,500 was raised, volunteers were able to host a live event on Sept. 26, presented by Pellow Pharmasave. The event welcomed 350 people who participated in either a 1km family walk/run, 5km walk, 5km run, 10km run or half marathon.
“It was wonderful to see members of the community come out once again in person to support the hospital foundation. Over the past 11 years Run4Health has raised over $210,000, and we plan to keep going for years to come,” said Brandt.
The single largest pledge earner was Ruth Brandt of Walkerton, who brought in over $3,200 on her own. The largest team, “Don’t Stop Believin’, We’re Running for Steven,” had 27 members and raised $3,258 in memory of Steven Ottewell.
Sacred Heart High School earned the school trophy this year with 15 participants, followed closely by Walkerton District Community School, which fielded 13 entries.
