WALKERTON – The Rotary Club of Walkerton has plans to present Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a prestigious award, the Paul Harris Fellow.
Named after Rotary founder Paul Harris, this award is presented by Rotary Clubs to individuals for their contributions to society. The Walkerton club is presenting this award to Zelenskyy on behalf of all Canadian Rotarians.
“We Canadians admire President Zelenskyy’s compassion and leadership for the people and children of Ukraine, and we wish him success in his efforts to accquire peace and harmony for his people,” states a release from the club.
The members of the Rotary Club of Walkerton have made a substantial donation to The Rotary Foundation disaster response fund for Ukraine. These funds will be immediately used by Rotary districts adjacent to Ukraine to support the more than 3,000,000 refugees fleeing from war-torn Ukraine. The United Nations estimates that number could grow to as many as five million people displaced.
In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel to contribute funds to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary districts and has designated its Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for contributions until April 30.
