STRATFORD – Once a year, the Perth County Federation of Agriculture honours an individual who has contributed tirelessly to agriculture in Perth County.
This year’s Agricultural Recognition Award was presented to Heather Robinson, who dairy farms with her husband, Jim, and two children outside of Listowel in rural North Perth.
Robinson has been involved in many organizations to help promote Perth County and people that live within it.
The list includes being a Perth County 4-H and Perth Junior Farmer alumnus; 2005 International Plowing Match education committee member; 2007 Perth County Federation of Agriculture Harvest Tour host farm; six years on the Perth County Dairy Producers committee, with five years as secretary; Perth 4-H Dairy Club leader; 2013 IPM organizing committee for the Dairy Farmers of Ontario tent and commodity rep for the Perth County food court; and in 2014, she brought Perth County community groups together to create I-FARM Perth County, a hands-on ag education program that teaches over 500 Grade 3 students annually about agriculture in their community and where their food comes from.
Robinson has also been a farmer participant in the adopt-a-calf pilot project, which partnered a farmer with a class of students to teach them about how the animal develops and is cared for over the course of the entire school year.
She also participated in the Farmer’s Toolbox metal health video sponsored through the Listowel Agricultural Society.
Robinson was honoured at the annual Perth County Federation of Agriculture Gala in Stratford recently for outstanding contributions to agriculture and the community in Perth County.
