HOWICK – A Wingham resident is facing numerous charges following an incident that took place last month east of Fordwich.
On Sunday, Feb. 27 at 6:50 p.m., Huron County OPP officers responded to Harriston Road east of Fordwich to investigate a roll over crash. Prior to arrival, police learned the driver of the crashed pickup truck failed to remain at the scene and took off on foot.
Shortly after police arrived officers followed the tracks in the snow and were able to locate the suspect hiding out in a nearby bush.
According to police, the subsequent investigation revealed the accused was in possession of suspected methamphetamine, was driving a stolen vehicle, was prohibited from driving and was currently serving a probation sentence.
Shannon Hunter, 39, from Wingham has been charged with the following criminal charges:
– break, enter a place with intent to commit indictable offence;
– obstruct peace officer;
– possession of a Schedule I substance – methamphetamine;
– possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
– two counts of operation while prohibited;
– fail to comply with probation order; and
– fail to comply with release order.
The accused remained in custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 3 in Goderich.
