WINGHAM – Huron County OPP have arrested and charged a local man, claiming he was caught with a stolen snowmobile earlier this week in Wingham.
In a media release on Feb. 2, police say the arrest was made on Jan. 31. Shortly after 9:30 p.m. that evening, police say an officer “took notice of a man that parked a snowmobile in a suspicious manner at a gas station in Wingham.” After the driver of the snowmobile went inside the gas station, police say the officer “completed some checks on the machine and it was quickly determined it was recently stolen from Saugeen Shores.”
According to police, the driver immediately took off running when he returned to the snowmobile and noticed the officer. The driver briefly escaped, but was later found in a nearby backyard and taken into custody.
Police have charged Michael Vock, 44, of no fixed address with:
- possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;
- escape lawful custody;
- resist peace officer;
- six counts of fail to comply with release order;
- five counts of operation while prohibited; and
- driving while under suspension.
Vock remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 3 in Goderich.
