Perth County mourns death of past warden, Milverton’s David Shearer

PERTH COUNTY – Perth County Warden Jim Aitcheson issued a release last Monday speaking to the death of former warden and Milverton resident David Shearer.

Shearer served three consecutive terms as Warden of Perth County in 1998, 1999 and 2000. At the time he first became warden in 1998, he was the head of a newly configured 10-member county council, which represented Perth’s four amalgamated member municipalities.

“It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of former warden and county council member, David Shearer,” stated Aitcheson in the release. “David was a proud citizen of Milverton. He was an extremely active supporter and member of St. Paul’s United Church and the Milverton Legion and (was) involved in Milverton minor sports. David leaves an important legacy for Perth East as one of the key driving forces behind the Perth East Recreational Complex (PERC) in Milverton. His public service extended beyond his work on Perth County council, as he also served as chair of the board of Knollcrest Lodge, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and the Eastern Star.

“On behalf of County Council and Staff I want to offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.”

In honour of Shearer’s life and public service to the region, flags were lowered at all county facilities from Oct. 18-22.
