One charged following threat at Walkerton school

WALKERTON ­– Police have charged one individual following a report of a threat at a school in Walkerton on Monday morning.

South Bruce OPP received the report at 8:55 a.m. on Feb. 14. While police did not specify the school, a Twitter post by police stated there was a “heightened police presence in the area of Cemetery Road and Browns Avenue in Walkerton.” A police presence was also noticeable at Sacred Heart High School that day.

In a media release at 11 a.m. on Monday, police stated an individual had been taken into custody, and there is no threat to public safety.

Following an investigation, police have charged Justin Spitzig, 37, of no fixed address with utter threats.

Spitzig was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing scheduled for Feb. 14.
