Terence Hugh Oliver was born on April 5, 1936, to parents Hugh and Audrey Oliver. He was the second of four children, with siblings Mike, Wendy, and Guy Oliver.
He was born in Timmins and moved around the Southwest Ontario area before settling down in the town of Listowel.
He was father to three children: Ami, Samuel and Joshua and married to Christine Hewitt of London, England for 26 years. He lived the first part of his life in Eastern Canada, spent the middle part of his life in the UK, and returned to Canada for the later years on the West Coast.
Terry’s passion for theatre and playwriting was the driving force behind his decision to move to England in his twenties. There he worked with the likes of The Royal Shakespeare Company and The National Theatre, as well as writing and performing his own plays. He continued writing right up until the last few years, when he authored four novels.
His final act was to go out on his own terms under Canada’s MAID program. After a stroke in April 2023, he began to deteriorate and felt that, eighteen months later and after eighty-eight years on this earth, it was time to depart. He did so on a beautiful, sunny day in Victoria, BC, having spent the day by the ocean on Sunday, September 29th, 2024.
