A bright and caring light has gone out of our family and community. Susan Elizabeth (Brown) Zaryski of Harriston passed away after a sudden illness on Sunday October 27, 2024 in her 78th year.
Beloved wife of Jim Zaryski for 55 years, and caring mother of Tanya, Karl (Caroline McLachlan Darling), Toban (Taylor Norman), she will be dearly missed by them and her grandchildren Joshua, Natasha, Meredith and Sawyer.
Susan was the younger sister of Gerry Brown (Suzanne) of Burlington and sister-in-law of Ruth Zaryski Jackson, Linda Zarytski and Gerry (Justen) Zaryski.
Susan will be remembered and missed by her niece and many nephews. Susan was predeceased by her parents William ‘Hal’ and Milly (Hoskin) Brown of Drew and Toronto.
Susan was born on April 16, 1947 in Toronto and grew up in Lawrence Park. She graduated from the University of Toronto (Sociology) and Toronto Teachers College. Jim and Susan met at a dance at Victoria College and were married in 1969. They moved to Harriston in 1972 when they bought the Manderson farm on the 12th Line. She taught primary school in Mount Forest and later was the first teacher at the Harriston Co-op Nursery School. Susan continued there until her retirement and helped to shape many young lives. She was an avid gardener, genealogist and church member. She loved her family and her home and always welcomed visitors for family meals, get-togethers and reunions.
Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Tuesday November 5, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
Internment at Harriston Cemetery.
