Sharon Ann Adams

After a wonderful life well-lived, our family is sad to announce the sudden passing of Sharon Ann Adams (nee Merkley) at their home in Wellesley, Ontario, on August 3rd, 2024 in her 79thyear.

Sharon was born in Howick Township in 1945; the baby of a farming family of six children near Belmore, ON.   She met husband and love of her life, Jim Adams, at the Wingham High School (now F.E. Madill) and they married in October 1966 after her graduation from the Registered Nursing program at what is now Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. Jim and Sharon were avid curlers and loved a good game of cards with friends. Sharon was a kind and caring nurse in several facilities in Owen Sound and Orangeville, and finally with the Victorian Order of Nurses in Dufferin County, until she retired early due to a back injury.

Sharon will be missed terribly by husband, Jim, and her children Lori (Rob Payne) of St. Clements, Paul (Sue) of Mississauga and Jason (Leanne) of Victoria, BC. Sean, Sarah, Cole, Victoria and Bella will miss Grandma Sharon and her fun, patient and loving ways (and her snack-filled cupboards).

She is predeceased by her mother Marie Merkley, father William Merkley and siblings Ernie, Harley, Elmer, and George. She is survived by her sister, Pauline Bennett of Seaforth. Sharon will be missed by her large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins in both the Merkley and Adams families.

To honour Sharon’s wishes, a celebration of life drop-in gathering will take place upstairs at Wingham Legion, 183 Victoria Street West in Wingham, on Friday, August 23rd from 1:00-4:00 p.m. There will be some short remarks and reflections at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wellesley Mennonite Church in Wellesley, Ontario or to the House of Friendship in Kitchener would be appreciated. The family will plant a tree in Sharon’s memory.
