Ruth Ditner (nee Zettel)

Ruth Ditner of Maple Court Retirement Residence in Walkerton, formerly of Mildmay, passed away peacefully at South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Walkerton on Monday April 7, 2025 at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Don Ditner, dear mother of Cindy Ditner of Walkerton, Doug and the late Kathy Ditner of Mildmay, Donna and Brian Ruetz of Mildmay, Darlene and Doug Thompson of Walkerton, and Glen and Jana Ditner of Blyth.

Cherished grandmother of Derek and Kayla Ditner, Deanna Ditner and Bill Brouwers, Curtis Ruetz and Maggie Imeson, Adam Ruetz, Steven Thompson and Hanna Burnie, Tyler Thompson and Laura Hopkins, Janelle Ditner, and Caleigh Ditner. Beloved great-grandmother of Halle and Ellie Ditner, Rhett and Margo Brouwers, and Charlotte Thompson.

Survived by her sister Marlene and Bill Douma, brothers-in-law John Benninger, Siegfried Kopp and Frank O’Malley. Fondly remembered by her nephews and nieces and their families.

Predeceased by parents Frank and Otilda Zettel, parents-in-law Paul and Mae Ditner, brother Melvin and Mary Zettel, sister Iona and Walter Scharlach, sister Geraldine Benninger, sisters-in-law Shirley Kopp and Cleo O’Malley, brother-in-law Stan and Eleanor Ditner, and nephews Brian (Louie) Zettel and Shawn O’Malley.

Born and raised in Greenock Township, she went on to excel at Sacred Heart High School, followed by secretarial training. She worked at the Children’s Aid Society until she married Don, and then she worked alongside him for Don Ditner Construction Limited for 56 years as receptionist, bookkeeper, dispatcher, and all-round office manager.   She chauffeured her 5 kids all around the area for figure skating, hockey, and softball. In later years, she was a frequent spectator at the grandkids’ sporting events. She loved watching the Leafs, Blue Jays, curling, and loved playing cards, particularly solo, with family and friends. She was also a fantastic cook and baker.

Visitation will be held at the Greg Roberts Funeral Home, 7 Peter Street South, Mildmay on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church, 12 Church Street, Mildmay, at 11:00 am.
