Ronald “Ron” Stroeder

On Tuesday May 14th, 2024, while working on a 2 stroke Detroit diesel engine, surrounded by apple trees, Ronald “Ron” Stroeder of Hanover passed away suddenly in his 74th year. 

Known to all as one of the best, Ron’s passion for life was evident in all he pursued. He was a man of unwavering calm and strong morals who only saw the best in people.

In 1978 Ron opened his dream shop, Stroeder’s Truck and Trailer in Mildmay, later moving to it’s current location in Walkerton in 2007. Ron was renowned in the diesel community as a living encyclopedia of knowledge, his sage advice and unparalleled expertise will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of learning from him.

His love for Detroit Diesels could only be surpassed by his boundless adoration for his wife and family. Ron was the beloved husband and best friend of 28 years to Judy and devoted father to Blair (Nancy Koehmstedt) Stroeder, Stacey (Dustin Zister) Stroeder, Dustin (Stefanie) Stroeder, all of Walkerton, Rene (Tsehay) Canning of Toronto, Ryan (Catelin Johnston) Canning of Hanover, and Brandon (Randy) Canning of Bradford. Ron was immensly proud of his grandchildren, Bailey, Logan, Rachel, Isla, Zac, Cole, Keo, Koa, James, Fiona, and Emmett. He would often be found bragging about them to anyone who would listen. He will be missed by his siblings Bert (Joan) Stroeder of Walkerton, Hugh Stroeder of Kitchener,  Fran (Brian Millions) Bardar of Edson, AB, Lorraine Martin of Scotland, ON, Rose (Ken) Niesen of Vancouver Island, BC, Cecile Plester of Ingersoll, brother-in-law  to Bob Millen of Port Hope, Mary Stroeder of Walkerton, Marshall (Debbie) Canning of Chapleau, Rolland (Marlene Wells) Canning of Maynooth, Debbie Canning of Walkerton, Paul Canning of Barrie, mother-in-law Mildred Macfarlane of Hanover, and many nieces and nephews. 

Ron is predeceased by his siblings Joe Stroeder, Betty Millen, sister-in-law Mary Helen Stroeder, brothers-in-law Bob Martin and Terry Plester, nephews Brian Stroeder, Dan Bardar, Stephen and Peter Stroeder, and his parents Ernest and Loretta (nee Poechman) Stroeder. 

Friends and relatives were invited for visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Cameron’s in Walkerton. A funeral service celebrating Ron’s life was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Hope Community Church, Hanover. Pastor Louie Foster officiated. Reception followed at Knights of Columbus Hall, Walkerton.
