Frederick George ‘Rick’ Freeman of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in his 77th year.
Husband of Wendy (Cox) Freeman. Father of Michael Freeman & Andrea Gebbie of Wellesley, and Krista Freeman of Clifford, and grandfather of Matthew, Morghan, MacKenzie, and Avinley.
Rick, born in London, was raised in Harriston in the iconic “Coronation Hotel”. Home was Minto where met and married his “honey” of 56 years, Wenda Lee and where they would raise Michael and Krista before moving onto Listowel. Softball people across Ontario will remember his commitment to the game, coaching and managing the Stop 23 bantam boys and the midget Imperials to back to back provincial championships. Winters he could be found at local ice rinks officiating and getting his exercise. Rick worked many years at the Midwestern Regional Center, followed by years in the car sales industry eventually retiring as the business manager of Listowel Chrysler. In retirement Rick could be found ensuring golfers followed the rules at Listowel Golf Club, where he also enjoyed regular rounds of “average golf”.
Rick and Wendy enjoyed Winters in sunny Florida where new and old friendships blossomed. Rick will be missed by many including grandchildren Morghan, Matthew, MacKenzie and Avinley.
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held in the spring.
Interment in Palmerston Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation or Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
