It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our gentle mother Patricia (Pat) Isabella Meadows, nee Marshall, on February 14, 2023, at her residence in Toronto, Ontario, formerly of Cayuga, Hamilton, Simcoe, London and Listowel.
Mom was born September 7, 1927 in Nixon, Ontario, the second daughter of Mabel Britton Cooper and George Louis Marshall. The family moved to Cayuga during her childhood and she was educated in the local schools. During those years she met and, in 1947, married her sweet heart and life partner Donald Arthur Meadows.
Work opportunities led Mom and Dad to Hamilton where their son, David Michael, arrived in 1948. Four years later those same opportunities caused a move to Simcoe and, later, London where they resided for 23 years. It was in London that they were blessed with two daughters: Merry Lou in 1960 and Lee Ann in 1966. It was Lee Ann’s special needs which brought the family to Wortley Road Baptist Church and solidified their faith. London also brought many wonderful, enduring friendships which included the Davidson family and Mom and Dad’s support for Jesse’s Journey.
In 1981, Mom and Dad moved, this time to Listowel where, in 2003, they retired to Maitland Terrace. Mom enjoyed her life in Listowel and was a devoted member of Listowel Baptist Church, which included annual summer volunteering at the church Bible Camp. She also used those summers to spend quality time with her young grandson, Jason Potts Meadows, on his visits to Listowel.
Mom was a talented seamstress and homemaker. She made her home, wherever it was, a warm and welcoming place with great smells from the kitchen and loving care for her family and friends. Mom was born with the “happy gene”. She saw the best in everyone and everything. Through the good times and bad she could always find the silver lining. Mom was a devoted Christian throughout her life. Her religious belief and goodness will surely be her Heavenly reward.
Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease while living in Listowel where she had been a resident for 25 years. She subsequently moved to Fellowship Towers in Toronto and finally to Chester Village in Scarborough.
Mom supported Dad throughout their life together in every way possible. She was the rock and he the spirit of their marriage. She lost Don in 2005 and missed him for the remainder of her life. She was also predeceased by her parents, daughter Lee Ann, sister Margaret, brother-in-law Jack Elliott, sister-in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Adams and brother-in-law Ted Adams.
She is survived by her son David (Susan Potts), Halifax; daughter Merry Lou (Joe Chang), Toronto; grandson Dr Jason Meadows (Christine Le), Windsor, Ontario; grand daughter Angelica Chang, Toronto, and grandson Benjamin Chang, Toronto; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews scattered throughout the world.
On behalf of Mom, the family would like to give special thanks to the staff in the House of Diamonds Unit, Chester Village, particularly to Memory, Susan, Bernadette, Bridget, Dulcina, and Thupten for the truly kind and gentle care given to Mom during her last years.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at Heritage Funeral Centre, 50 Overlea Blvd., Toronto, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, commencing with a visitation at 9:30 a.m. followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. with Nigel Barham presiding, and a reception immediately thereafter . The interment will take place at the family plot at Riverside Cemetery, Cayuga, Ontario, later the same afternoon. Mom will be buried there with husband Don and daughter Lee Ann. May she rest in peace until we meet again. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Jesse’s Journey (email: defeatduchenne.ca) or by performing an act of loving kindness in Mom’s name.
