Miriam Carter

1926 – 2025

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, with her family at her side, Edith Miriam Louise (Edwards) Carter of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital. 

Miriam grew up in Toronto, Ontario, the daughter of the late James Leonard and Edith (Anderson) Edwards.  Predeceased by her loving husband Edward Carter in 2001.

Loving mother of Gary & Elizabeth Carter of Beamsville, and Susan & Martin Shadwick, and Carolyn Carter, all of Listowel.

Proud grandmother of Jennifer Carter of Vineland, and Stephanie & Cameron Esfahani of Austin, Texas, and great-grandmother of Kingston, Summer and Max Esfahani, all of Austin, Texas. 

Predeceased by her brother Larry Edwards and his wife Sally.  Remembered fondly by her nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

A dignified and intelligent woman, Miriam was truly a trailblazer and part of the greatest generation.  She served as a Farmerette during World War II, aiding the farmers in food production.  Miriam and Edward graduated together from Pharmacy at the University of Toronto and soon thereafter established Carter’s Pharmacy in Listowel.  Miriam was a very active member of the community, where she was a member of the Cradle Club, golf and curling clubs, and Trinity United Church, Listowel, as well as an avid bridge and Scrabble player. 

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Sunday, June 29 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  The funeral service was held at Trinity United Church, Listowel, on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.  Rev. Beth Kerr officiated.

Private family interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
