Michael Paul Edward Johnston passed away at his home in Listowel, surrounded by the incredible love of his family, on Monday, July 29, 2024, in his 67th year.
Husband of Sandy (Scott) Johnston. Father of Ryan & Nicole Johnston, and Heather Dafoe, all of Listowel, and Papa of Jazlin and Jayda. Son of Bill Johnston of Listowel and the late Mary Ellen (Long), brother of Sue & Bob Scott, Doug Johnston, Sandra Schalk & Paul McPhail, and Jenn & Rod van Engen, and brother-in-law of Gary Scott. Lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by his parents-in-law Doug & Kathy Scott.
Mike had a larger than life personality, never ending optimism and contagious laugh that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His family meant the world to him…just slightly below poker, golf and ice fishing! He was a top notch cabinet maker by day, a self-proclaimed comedian by night, and a real life Santa Claus all year round. Also known as “Big Mikey”, the only thing that exceeded his stature was the size of his heart. He was loved and respected by so many and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. James Clark officiating. The service will be live-streamed, and the link available on the funeral home website.
At Mike’s request, we would ask that everyone wear Hawaiian shirts or bright colours – you read that correctly!
Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
