Mary Cecelia Oberle

Mary Cecelia Oberle, beloved wife, mother, sister, teacher, pet granny and friend, passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer.

Mary was the devoted daughter of Wilibald and Susan Weiss.  She was cherished by her loving husband, Norbert Oberle, her daughter, Pam Oberle of Guelph, her son, Dwayne Oberle of Kitchener, and her siblings: Ted, Laverne, and Bill Weiss, along with Phyllis Halk and Lucille Lukas. Mary now rests alongside her dear sister, Doreen Eickmeier, and brother-in-law, Bill Lukas.

During her remarkable 34-year tenure with the Waterloo Region Catholic School Board, Mary positively impacted countless lives. Being named Waterloo Region’s primary teacher of the year highlighted her extraordinary ability to uplift and inspire both students and colleagues. Whether it was dressing up for holidays like St. Patrick’s Day or Halloween, Mary brought joy and warmth to every room she entered.

In retirement, Mary continued her legacy of service and compassion. She volunteered at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, St. Andrews Terrace Nursing Home, and Trinity Kitchen. She was also an active member of the Catholic Women’s League, a member of the Probus Club, and an organist for weekday masses at St. Gregory Church. Her dedication to helping others was also evident in her tireless work for Canadian Food for Children.

Mary’s family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Dicu and the staff of the chemo suite at Grand River Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness during her journey.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas Street N. Cambridge on Friday, April 11, from 6-9:00 PM (Parish prayers will be recited at 8pm).  A brief visitation is available at St. Gregory Church on Saturday, April 12, from 10-11:00 AM, immediately followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre.
