It is with deep love and sorrow that the family of Maria Melo (Leal) Couto of Listowel announce her passing at Fordwich Village Nursing Home on Friday, August 15, 2025, in her 82nd year.
Maria was a beloved wife to Antonio Couto, and a devoted mother to Tony & Tracy Couto, and Lino & Angela Couto, all of Gorrie. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Samantha, Hope, Christina, Jesse, Jeff, and Eddie, and a loving great-grandmother to Amelia, James, Izaiah, and Ellie.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Maria Couto, Ana Couto, Rita Toste, Joao & Lasalete Couto, José & Lucia Couto, Luis & Conceiçao Couto, and Luçia & Francisco Drumond, as well as by her many nieces and nephews who will hold her memory in their hearts.
Predeceased by her parents Emanuel & Amelia Leal, parents-in-law Francisco & Rita Couto, brothers Manuel Leal, and Jose & Maria Leal, and by her in-laws Jose Dutra, Francisco Couto, and Jose Toste.
Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Monday, August 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with prayers at 5:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Listowel, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the church hall.
Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
Memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Listowel, would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
Maria will be remembered for her love of family, her faith, and the kindness she shared with everyone she met She will be deeply missed and forever treasured.
