Kenneth John Hartman

Ken Hartman, a pillar of the community, passed away on May 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service, passion, and love. Born in Owen Sound, Ontario on May 21, 1946, Ken was a devoted husband to Marilyn ’Molly’ of 55 years and a loving father to Ann (Michael), John (Marcey) and Jennifer.

His pride and joy were his grandchildren, McKennah and Tyler, whom he supported wholeheartedly in their sports endeavors, including figure skating, hockey, baseball, and soccer. There was also a special place in Ken’s heart for his grandson Mitchell.

Ken’s life was marked by a deep appreciation for knowledge and the great outdoors. An avid reader, he immersed himself in literature, always seeking to expand his horizons. His love for hiking led him to explore the rugged beauty of the Bruce Trail, where he found solace and inspiration.

Sports played a significant role in Ken’s life. As a lifelong fan of hockey, he cheered passionately for the Boston Bruins, sharing in the victories and defeats of his beloved team. Beyond sports, Ken was well-versed in historical moments, often engaging in spirited discussions about the past.

His commitment to community service was unwavering. Ken was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he contributed to veterans’ causes and fostered camaraderie among fellow members. His acute interest in politics led him to serve as Deputy Reeve, Councillor, Deputy Mayor, and ultimately Mayor of Walkerton, Ontario. His leadership left an indelible mark on the town, shaping its growth and progress.

Ken’s dedication extended to law enforcement as well. He actively participated in the local policing community where he was appointed as the as the Police Commissioner by the province of Ontario. Working tirelessly to ensure safety and security for all residents. His integrity and compassion made him a respected figure in Walkerton.

Ken is predeceased by his parents and daughter Jennifer. As we bid farewell to Ken, we remember him as a man of principle, kindness, and resilience. His legacy lives on through the memories shared by family, friends, and the community he served.
