Joseph Leach

A sweet and gentle soul who loved hockey, family gatherings and time with friends, Joseph Robert Leach, 28, of Walkerton, died unexpectedly on July 11, 2024.

Joe was born in Kincardine in 1996 to Bruce Leach and Suzanne Cotnam.  He treasured his strong bond with his dad and was a fierce protector and loving alter ego to his mom.  Joe was best friends with his handsome and imposing younger brother, Alex Leach, they were each other’s rock and confidant.  Cousin Joe was the moon and the stars to his younger cousin, Billy Mansfield who loved Joe beyond measure.

Of Anishnabek descent, Joe was a proud member of the Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, the great grandson of Chief John Milliken and grandson of Lorna Cotnam (nee Milliken).  Joe’s spiritual essence remains with us and he will continue to be cared for by all of those who loved him.

Joe was known for his quiet but prophetic nature, who was politically informed and passionate.  He always delivered his views with patience and a listening ear.  He was hard working and dedicated, patient to a fault, and his infectious smile radiated in every joyful interaction he had.  Joe was known as Moe and Moey by his school friends and work friends alike. Joe attended Paisley Central School then went on to graduate from high school at Walkerton District Secondary School, before going to work at Bruce Power as a Labourer.  Joe was a proud member of LIUNA Local 1059.  Joe felt blessed when in the company of family and friends and was always up for a fun time whether it was an NHL game, an MLB outing, hangouts with friends, family trips or BBQ’s and pool parties.  The fall of his beloved Oilers this year was perhaps the last straw.

Joe will always be remembered for the way he made those who were special to him feel as though they were the most important part of his day. His kind and fun-loving demeanor made everyone want to be with him.  Joe also had a soft spot for his furry friends, most recently Mogwai the cat and he treated each and every one like a valuable family member.

We will miss him every day.  Joe’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.  We are comforted by the knowledge that he rests now in the eternal embrace and life of God.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lorna Cotnam (nee Milliken), Ben Cotnam, Roy Leach and Diana Auckland (Nee Thomas).

A private gathering for friends and family will be held.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to PSC Partners Seeking a Cure Canada would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences can be made online at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com
