James Calvin Matheson of Spanish, and formerly of Atwood, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, in his 82nd year.
Husband of Deborah (Stillar) Matheson. Father of Jodie & Paul Dewar of Atwood, Jeff Matheson of Taber, Alberta, Dwayne & Diane Matheson of Atwood, Patti & Mike Smith of Spanish, and Tim & Kim Matheson of Listowel.
Grandfather of Dennis & Melanie Dewar, Darryl & Lisa Dewar, Robbie Matheson, Tyler Matheson, Olivia Matheson, Travis Matheson, Nicholas Matheson, Lucas Matheson, Brandon Smith, Shaunna Smith, Cody & Katie Matheson, and Bailey Matheson & Emma Frey, and great-grandfather of Hudson, Emmett, Kaylee, and Kaydyne. Also sadly missed by Deb’s children Sarah Smith of Atwood, Nichole & Dale Jamieson of Listowel, and Adam & Tammy Hamilton of Fordwich, grandchildren Victoria & Evan Ducharme, Pearson & Ashley Smith, Mackenzie Smith & Bryce Hamilton, Shelby Hinschberger & Scott Robbins, Madison Hinschberger & Josh Gottfried, Lucas Jamieson & Megan Rumph, Abigail Jamieson & Logan Miller, Neve Jamieson, Dalton Hamilton & Levi Latimer, Owen & Kelsey Hamilton, and Reece Hamilton, and great-grandchildren Wilson and Alice.
Brother of Brad & Carla Matheson of Listowel, and fondly remembered by Deborah’s extended family and many friends.
Predeceased by his parents Alvin & Ferne Matheson, and sister Carol Thompson and her husband Richard.
A private family funeral service was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 11a.m. The service was livestreamed, and the link available on the funeral home website.
A celebration of Calvin’s life was held at the Elma Memorial Community Centre (269 Main St, Atwood), on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with words of remembrance at 1:30 p.m.
Interment in Donegal Cemetery.
