Hendrik ‘Henry’ Hiemstra, formerly of Listowel, passed away at Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton, surrounded by his children, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, in his 104th year.
Dear husband of the late Pietje ‘Patricia’ (Hovius) Hiemstra in 1993.
Loved father of Corrie Bonsma, Bill & Martha Hiemstra, and Edith & Andrew Thalen, all of Listowel, Elizabeth & Dick DeWit of Port Stanley, Linda & Ed Mosterd of Wellesley, and Susan & Leonard Greidanus of Listowel, and father-in-law of Wilma Hiemstra of Wingham.
Lovingly remembered by his siblings Hielkje Wiegman and Janke Hiemstra, 28 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Predeceased by his son Jake Hiemstra (2014), son-in-law Ernie Bonsma (2016), 2 great-grandchildren,1 great-great grandchild, brother Sipke Hiemstra, and sister Hedwieges Jukema
Hendrik Hiemstra was born in Oostum Gem, Holland, on October 31, 1920 to Sjouke & Ietja (Luinstra) Hiemstra. On August 1, 1947, he married Pietje Hovius, and in May of 1948, they immigrated to Canada.
Private family interment was held at Fairview Cemetery, Listowel, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. The funeral service followed at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Listowel, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Cam Oegema officiated. The service was livestreamed, and the link is available on the funeral home and church websites.
