Helen Marguerite (Brown) Bender of Listowel passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in her 89th year.
Beloved wife of the late Murray Bender. Devoted mother of Jeff & Tracy Bender, Todd & Carolyn Bender, and Jill & Trevor Reading all of Listowel.
Loving grandmother of Brittney (Jordan), Abbey (Matt), Travis (Brittany), Claire (Patrick), Owen (Jenny), Reece (Kyann), Seth (Hannah), and Sara (Zach). Remembered by her great-grandchildren Lola, Addy, Roman, Ted, Avah, Myah and Bria.
Sister of Joyce Kilbourne (late Wilf) of London, Paula Draper (Harvey) of Denfield, Judie Schramn of Kitchener, and Jackie Starr (Robin) of Bayfield. Sister-in-law of Joan Brown, Langley BC.
Helen will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her mother Wilma (Storey) Brown Hube, her stepfather Howard Hube, brothers George (Buster) Brown and Bryan Hube, and by her brother and sister-in-law John and Anne Bender.
Helen was born in Fergus, Ontario. She spent many years working at Bell Canada followed by 29 years at the Listowel Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator. She was a devoted member at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel where she served many service groups.
Helen enjoyed her time at their cottage at Lurgan Beach, weekly coffee club, and wine parties with her friends as well as countless family get-togethers. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, she would never hesitate to spend her time sharing their accomplishments. One of her favourite pastimes was watching her grandchildren play baseball, softball and hockey.
The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., with a continued time to honour Helen’s life and share memories to follow at the Listowel Golf Course from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m.

Spring interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
