Gordon Whiteley

Gordon Whiteley passed away at his home in Atwood, surrounded by his family, on Monday, January 5, 2026, in his 85th year.

Husband of Rose (Peterson) Whiteley.  Father of Christine & Ben Fizell of Monkton, Graham Whiteley of Kitchener, and Bruce & Eileen Brodhagen of Tillsonburg.

Remembered by his grandchildren Kayla Sylvain, Mary Fizell, Sarah Fizell, and Ben Fizell Jr.

Gordon was born on August 6, 1941 on Hanging Stones Farm, in Ripponden, Yorkshire, England to Leslie and Alice (Mather) Whiteley.  He immigrated to Canada in 1965 and became a Canadian Citizen on January 27, 1977.

Gord began his career at Ontario Hydro in 1969 as a Journeyman Carpenter, eventually retiring as a Carpenter Foreman.  He had a great career at Hydro, working at numerous locations across Ontario and made many friends whom he stayed in touch with.

Over the years, Gord enjoyed being a member of the Comancheros Car Club.  He was an AVID Motocross enthusiast and participated in multiple races over the years.  To the day of his passing, he kept a motorcycle and countless trophies in his home and had wonderful memories of the time spent with the Motocross friends he made over the years.

Gord was a nature and animal lover, spending many days feeding the neighbourhood cats and enjoying his time with Roxy.  Rose & Gord had many Caribbean trips over the years where they had great times with friends, dancing, fun, and games.  Later years, they appreciated the warmth of Arizona during their winter months.

Gord loved to shop for bargains, especially at Gray’s Auction, Value Village, and the ReStore.  He loved to tell jokes, and many were not appropriate, but he told them anyway.  Gord had lots of opinions and gladly shared them.

Manitoulin Island was a favourite spot for Gord, where he loved time at their trailer, boating, waterskiing, and fishing, and entertaining Graham, Christine, and the grandkids.  The grandkids were unquestionably his pride & joy.

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
