It is with great sadness that after a courageous battle, we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother, Gina Marie Smith of Milverton, on Monday, July 10, 2023, in her 58th year. Gina passed peacefully at Stratford General Hospital surrounded by her family and best friend, Becky.
Gina is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Jerry. Also surviving are sons and daughter Coleton (Courtney) Smith of Strathroy, Landon (Shawna) Smith of Staffa, Maddison (Brendan Schneider) of Milverton at home and Pierson (Leah Brown) of Milverton at home. Special Grandma to sweet baby Nora. Daughter of John (deceased) and Pauline Scrimgeour, daughter-in-law of Gary and Barbara (deceased) Smith. Survived by brother Jim Scrimgeour and sister Jodi Allin, brothers-in-law Troy and Sandi Smith, Tony Smith and Lori Perrie, and sister-in-law Juanita and Dan Belfour. Also fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many cherished friends.
Gina was extremely devoted to her family. She loved afternoons with her kids in the backyard, visiting at John and Pauline’s, and spending time with Nora. Her many friends were essential parts of her life. She welcomed everyone for ‘just one drink’ on the front porch and a quick chat. This usually turned into an evening on the back deck, accompanied by her personal music playlist and just a few more beverages. Her community energized her. Gina was an avid local ball player, coach, and mentor. She ensured her kids were equally involved in sports growing up and never missed a game. Gina’s vibrant energy and presence will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.
To the staff at Grand River Hospital for guiding Gina and her family through treatments with so much compassion. To all the staff at Stratford General Hospital for providing exceptional care, warmth, and kindness during Gina’s final week. To those at Knollcrest Lodge, Gina loved her role as the Community Outreach Manager, she was dedicated to her staff and the position. Not only was this her workplace, but a place where she laughed and loved every day, and built lifelong friendships.
A celebration of life will be held at the Perth East Recreation Complex in Milverton on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 1-5 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in the care of the Milverton Fights Back Campaign or Milverton Minor Softball Association.
