Gertie Long of Atwood passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on July 27, 2024 at the age of 95.
Beloved wife of the late Bruce Long (2019). Loving mother of Douglas of Atwood, Barry (Lynda) Long of Atwood, Karen (Bruce) Smith of Atwood, Wayne (Jan) Long of Hanover, and Kenny (Brenda) Long of Atwood. Cherished grandmother of Laurie (Gerry) Henderson, Bryan Long (Shannon McFadden), Derek (Laura) Smith, Shelley (Matt) Sessions, Courtney (Eric) Hopkins, Nichole (Kris) MacDonald, Jenna Long (Chris Turner), Trevor (Christine) Long, Jordan Long, Riley Long and great grandmother of 19 great grandchildren.
Fondly remembered by brother Fred Scholl, sister-in-law Maxine Scholl and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents John and Isabel (nee Wilson) Scholl, brother William in infancy, brother Jack Scholl, sister Eileen Erwin (Fleischauer) and sister-in-law Marjorie Scholl.
Gertie was a long-time member of the Atwood UCW and drove bus for 20+ years at Newry Bus Lines. Gertie and Bruce were proud owners of Long’s Grocery Store in Newry. Gertie’s true passions in life were cooking, baking, playing cards and spending time with her family which she was very proud of.
Visitation will be held at Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John St, Atwood from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday August 1st, 2024. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday August 2, 2024, from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. at the Steve Kerr Community Room, 965 Binning St W, Listowel. Private family interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
