Eileen Fleming (Marshall)

Francis “Eileen” Fleming (nee Marshall), passed away peacefully at Linhaven Long-term Care home on December 14, 2023 in her 80th year, after a lengthy decline from Alzheimer’s disease.

Devoted wife to Rick Fleming for 55 years. Proud mother of Brian (Teresa) Fleming (St. Catharines) and Christine (Lauren) MacNeil (Edmonton). Loving Gram to four wonderful grandsons, Jamie, Cameron, Ewan and Finn.

Daughter of the late Joe and Eunice Marshall of Listowel, Eileen is survived by her sister Diana Turney of Listowel and many loving nieces and nephews.

Eileen was born in Listowel and from a young age dreamed of being a kindergarten teacher. After attending Stratford Teachers College she started her career in Scarborough and when she married Rick in 1968, moved to a teaching position near the University of Waterloo where he was enrolled.

After spending the 1970’s as a devoted homemaker and mother, she returned to teaching in Oakville where she retired 20 years later. She never lost the joy of teaching and cherished her time with the children, leading school choirs or just clowning around with fellow teachers. All who knew her appreciated the dedication Eileen brought to any task she took on, whether it was Chair of the Easter Seals Regatta at Dalhousie Yacht Club or President of the board of her condominium association.

Eileen enjoyed being with friends and family, and so entertaining at dinner parties was a natural outlet for her love of cooking.  Taking early retirement provided the opportunity to travel and over the next 15 years she and Rick visited many of the natural and manmade wonders of our world. All in all, Eileen’s life was a “life well lived” and she will be missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Linhaven for their thoughtful care of Eileen over the past four years. It is hard to overstate the comfort it has brought to the family during this period.

In honouring Eileen’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life for Eileen will be held at the Dalhousie Yacht Club (74 Lighthouse Road, St. Catharines) on Sunday January 21, 2024 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

If desired, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara would be put to good use.  Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144.  Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
