Mom was predeceased by her parents, William and Edith Gordon, her husband James R (Bud) Dixon (1998) and her brother, John Gordon (2022). She is survived by her children – Charlene Gordon, Judy Cupskey, and Derek Brockelbank (Judy) as well as seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Ruby Gordon and nephews and niece.
Mom was a hard worker who built a profile in the Listowel community through her years of managing the kitchens at the Twin Gables Restaurant and then the snack bar at Smith’s Market Square. She loved a good party – Bud and her rarely missed an Armouries dance – and she hosted a great Christmas. Mom enjoyed travelling, seeing much of Canada and Holland with Bud before switching to cruising with Judy.
Attending North Perth Seniors was a weekly highlight in her later years. Mom often spent evenings doing needlework or reading or watching curling. She read to us often as children and never missed a Parent-Teacher Night. Mom ensured that we were involved in Brownies and Scouts and hockey and could demonstrate the ability to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.
The family sincerely thanks Judy Larson, Mom’s PSW during her final years of independent living, and the staff at Knollcrest Lodge, all of whom showed both patience and kindness with Mom’s rather feisty, she called it ‘stubborn’, personality. Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 259 (Listowel) in Mom’s memory are appreciated.
