Donald Hartung

Donald Victor Hartung of Gowanstown passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, on Sunday, February 13, 2022, age 62.

Son of Ruth Hartung of Listowel and the late Victor. Loving husband of Leola (Chisholm) Hartung for 38 years.  Proud father of Luke & Crystal Hartung of Gowanstown, Chantelle & Cory Wilson of Minto Township, and Ben Hartung & Nathan Flach of Calgary.  Grandfather of Blake and Brooke Hartung, and Hadley and Tate Wilson.  Brother of Audrey & Ted Spoelstra of Listowel, and Marlene & John Mueller of Gadshill.   Son in-law of Olive Chisholm of Goderich & the late Leonard.  Brother in-law of Alex & Betty Anne Chisholm of Auburn, Anne Chisholm of Goderich and the late Colin, Virginia & David Caesar of Dungannon, and remembered by many nieces & nephews.

Don spent his entire life on the 6th of Wallace, dairy farming, and now cash cropping.  He has enjoyed driving milk truck for Johnston’s in Listowel for the past 12 years.

Don loved all seasons, but especially winter for cutting wood in the bush, skiing, snowmobiling and travelling.  He seldom missed a Port Dover Friday the 13th on his motorcycle, and he loved going for day trips with his restored 1930 Model A.

Don loved spending time with his family and friends. His involvement with the Palmerston Snow Kings, Palmerston Agriculture Society and Zion United Church has spanned many decades.   He has always been a grand optimist and enjoyed a good laugh.
