Betty Marie Reid of Walkerton passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, in her 85th year.
Betty was born at the Lion’s Head Red Cross Outpost Hospital and grew up on the family farm in Ferndale. She attended the Lion’s Head Continuation School, where she met her future husband, Marvin Reid. Following graduation, Betty worked at the Royal Bank in Lion’s Head.
After marrying, Marvin and Betty eventually moved to Walkerton where they raised their family and built a life rooted in community. Betty was employed at the Walkerton Post Office until her retirement in 2001. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Church and a dedicated member of Legion Branch 102 in Walkerton.
Betty greatly enjoyed coffee time with friends at Tim Hortons and Saturday meat draws at the Legion—simple pleasures that reflected her warm and social nature.
Beloved wife and best friend of 64 years to Marvin Reid. Betty was a cherished mother to Andy Reid of Chatham, Ray Reid (Shawna McLay) of Lion’s Head, and Ron Reid (Alison) of Glencairn. She was a proud grandmother to Joelle, Robyn, Marcus, Ryan, Jessica, Dylan, Kendra, and Rachel, and was also fondly remembered by Jacob and Sydney.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Bob Hellyer (Jeanette) of Lion’s Head and Fred Hellyer (Penny) of Tobermory, as well as by her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Wib and Margaret Hellyer; her parents-in-law Lewis and Marjorie Reid, her brother-in-law Dr. Ross Reid (Dorothy) and her sister-in-law Betty Lou Lyons.
Friends and relatives were invited to visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Cameron’s in Walkerton. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at St. Paul’s United Church, Walkerton. Reception followed at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102, Walkerton.
Interment in Walkerton Cemetery.
